This is a passage from the Analects (論語) of Confucius. There are two understandings on the passage since old times. To learn heresy (different opinions) results in bad effects. (a) To attack heresy (different opinions) results in bad effects. (b) The only difference depends on how one reads 攻. Usually, the word means “attack”, (b), but the understanding of (a) was traditionally right. If you stand on the present day, (a) seems to me like a symbol of stagnation. However, upon reflection, (b) is still another expression of (a), so both are almost the same. It seems a tall order that we read the Analects to* the present day. * This is not a mistake of "in". However, I do not know an appropriate word.

When you consider how the internet is full of stupid arguments that never go anywhere, I think I like the second interpretation more.

I need to run but I'll try to write something quickly.I would use "correct" instead of "right" at the end of the sixth sentence. With that sentence being long and complex, using "correct" makes it easier to understand as "right" can have so many meanings. Right can have even more if being spoken when you add rite and write. Though, it's just preference in the end.-Commonly, a list will be presented like this:A["." or ")"] Item 1B. Item 2C. Item 3Talk about the items here.-I like learning new things when I read your entries. Keep them coming. These are all just suggestions too.

Thank you for your correction!
